Wanted another soulful, instrumental track.
Wanted another soulful, instrumental track.
So many songs about winter, spring, and summer, so I thought it was well due time to bump up the sparse selection of songs about autumn.
This song developed musically, from just the bass line I was playing around with on my keyboard. It created a mood that informed the feel, and then the subject, of the song.
This is a very fond homage and throwback to the funky music of the ‘70s and early ‘80s. I’ve thrown pretty much every musical reference from that time into this (80-track!) song.
This songs comes from my days of early youth at Harlem block parties, boom boxes, and vinyl records in milk crates, and watching the rollerskaters in the parks and clubs of NYC.
I moved to the Caribbean island of Barbados in October 2020 for a year-long work-from-home stay. I wanted to write a song about Christmas “pon de” island soon after arriving, but figured for authenticity it would probably be best to wait until I had actually experienced Christmas here to write a song about Christmas here.
However, because of the pandemic — and the consequential shutdowns and lockdowns — there wasn’t much of a socially culture holiday vibe or energy here.
So instead I referenced my quite genuine positive feelings for being in this near paradisiacal oasis, and applied it to what an ideal romantic relationship would feel like.
This song, though probably being remastered before making it onto the album (having already been remastered since its debut on many music streaming services), is the editorial outcome of those heart-beating ruminations.
I song I wrote for and about a dear friend’s grandaughter and her immediate connection and friendship with the family’s relatively new pet dog.
A song admitting to the awkward handling of an obsession over someone
“Skippy” is the nickname of my very der friend Laurie, for whom this song is written for and about, and as well for whom the entire Skippy the EP disc is dedicated to.
A short ditty for the woman the Skippy EP was created for.
